How long to spend in Christiania
What each length buys you
An hour. The gate, Den Grå Hal, Nemoland and the workshops around the art gallery, at a walking pace with time to stop once. You will see the part everybody photographs and miss the part worth remembering.
Two hours. All of the above plus the ramparts and the lake, where the self-built houses stand along the water and Green George sits in the reeds. This is the length I would give anyone visiting once. The things to see page has the order I walk it in.
Half a day. Christiania inside its own neighbourhood: the Church of Our Saviour, Christianshavns Kanal and Asiatisk Plads, or the Vesterbro and Christianshavn walk that takes three and a half to four hours across two districts and includes metro tickets. See walking tours.

How long do you need in Freetown Christiania?
Two hours is the sensible answer for a first visit: one for the built centre and one for the ramparts and the lake. An hour works if you only want the centre.
How long are the guided tours?
Two hours for the Christiania and Christianshavn walk and the private Christianshavn tour, two and a half for the City Highlights bike tour, and three and a half to four for the Vesterbro and Christianshavn half-day walk. All six are on all tours.
Can I see Christiania in 30 minutes?
You can walk the main stretch in that, and you will have seen very little. If time is that short, walk straight out to the ramparts and the lake so the half hour you have is spent on the right part.
